The American Medical Women's Association is the oldest multispecialty organization dedicated to advancing women in medicine and improving women's health. Through advocacy, mentorship, leadership development, research, constituency building, and policy reform, AMWA is able to advocate on behalf of women in medicine and help in addressing the gender gap in leadership.
The American Medical Women's Association at the University of California, Irvine, is a premedical chapter of the national organization. Our organization offers opportunities to gain insight on the specific challenges face by women in medicine while allowing a safe, non-competitive forum for students to network and discuss issues.
Medical students from UCISOM discussed their pre-medical journeys and current experiences.
Dr. Irene Aninye discussed the importance of biological sex differences in women's health through science, education, and policy.
AMWA members helped in assembling goodie bags for the patients in the oncology unit at the Children's Hospital of Orange County (CHOC).
The Rivkin Center joined us and taught AMWA members about the signs and symptoms for ovarian and breast cancer.
One of our main service projects is The Purse Project. Started by AMWA TCU School of Medicine in 2021, gently used/new purses are collected and filled with period products, cosmetics, and other items central to womanhood and motherhood.
